Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change as a response to its environment. This means our brains are a reflection of what we put in. We can direct this process or allow it to be outsourced. – Austin Perlmutter, MD

So the real statement to think about here is that – everything that we do every day is shaping our brain in some way. Like how plastic can be molded in to different shapes, our brains are the same.

The gray matter in the reward center is much smaller in people who watch porn. Scientists have observed a similar effect with alcohol, meth and cocaine, and yet porn is even worse than these things in terms of its effect. The more you watch porn, the more your brain lights up until it overloads the reward center. When you first watch, it has a novelty to it, however it quickly wears off and you need to watch more and more just to get the same level of activity in the reward center. Porn is like a straightjacket on the mind where it locks you in to a centralized focus and it becomes the only thing that you are interested in. This is how much more detrimental it is the the brain than even meth and cocaine.

Scientists actually hooked volunteers up to scanners to see how the activity in the brain of alcoholics and drug addicts differed from porn users. The reward center for the porn users lit up even more than drugs and alcohol – porn completely hijacked the entire reward center whereas the alcohol and drugs were minimally stimulated by comparison.

The people who create the porn are well aware of this, and you have to understand that they are in some ways the best at marketing and the best subconscious mind architects. They know that repetition is key to getting people hooked on porn. They know that once anyone, male or female is exposed to porn, it changes the brain in a irreversible way. Sex is everywhere for this reason. Because it is a control mechanism. For many users the result of porn is masturbation which is very short lived to achieve 30 seconds of feeling pleasure which is then followed by hours of shame and guilt – then they do it all again the next day as if something else is controlling their minds and bodies. We are exposed from the time we are kids to sex scenes and sexual imagery buried in as many places as possible, including family guy, disney movies, and skittles packages just to name a few.
